How long can a glider fly for?

There are two answers to this. The longest flight that has been offically verified is 1,280 miles (2,048 km) although there has been a recent claim of a 1,925 mile flight (3,080 km). The longest in terms of time is in the region of 14 hours.

How high can a glider fly?

The UK height record is just over 37,000 feet and the world record is in excess of 48,000 feet. There are plans for a flight to 62,000 feet underway at present (May 2002) with a possible flight up to 100,000 feet also in planning.

What is the fastest glider?

Gliders normally fly in the 40-60 mph (64-96 kmh) speed range. The fastest on record was on a 500km out-and-return flight in California which managed an average spped of 155 mph (248 kmh).

What is the height record at NWGC?

Since moving to the site at Llandegla, the highest glider flight at North Wales Gliding Club has been to 9,000 feet.
